Very cute and short love story. I would say that this was not very spicy and there was only a few pages that had spice. I would say that the title is a bit misleading as it had really nothing to do with the nutcracker or christmas really. I would say this is a good book if you are looking for a cute love story and are trying to close out a reading yearly challage. I recommend it but also I would not read it again in the future.

short sweet extremely repetitive i don't mean as in characters doing the same thing but information is repeatedly told to us so we would be in Clara pov she will tell you something then we go to Nash pov and he will tell you the exact same thing with no added detail or insight. if not for book cub i don't think i would have finished because i just didn't care about the couple at all.

however i know book club people are going to be raving about it because I've already had message of book is amazing can't wait to talk about it in group.
fast-paced

almost DNF’ed honestly. but it wasn’t terrible. not really “spicy” either.

Nutcracker with Benefits flips between the perspectives of Clara and Nash; our main characters who have been sleeping with each other for years. Clara travels the world making a living blogging about her adventures. Nash works at a tech company that Clara's parents founded, having been mentored and taken in by them as a teen. (Nash's parents disapprove of his career)

Clara and Nash genuinely feel like long term friends because of the little stories and antidotes Liz Alden writes about their past. And it seems like they are doing a great job keeping their relationship casual; hooking up a handful of times a year when Clara is home for holidays. But then we get inside Nash's head and see he's absolutely in love with her. The problem is he wants Clara to settle in one place so they can explore a serious relationship. This cute holiday novella explores his plan to express his love, why Clara has such strong wanderlust and most importantly how Clara figures out what she wants!

Spice Level (using the romance.io guide): 4

Liz Alden is fairly new to me, but I am 100% a fangirl after subscribing to her newsletter, reading her two incredible short stories, (if you haven't done that, go do that!), and having this book gifted to me by Liz. I think she's become my favorite author, or at least she's in a two-way tie with Karina Halle!
Everyone else has done a great job explaining the basics of the story, so I'll just tell you it is totally swoon-worthy, Nash is my new book boyfriend, and it was an absolutely delightful holiday-themed story! I've only spent a week in New York City, but the day Nash so thoughtfully planned for Clara would be my dream-come-true day. The characters are all so well-written; there wasn't any character there to just accomplish one thing. They were all well-developed and integral to the plot. I love books with friends-with-benefits relationships, but they're hard to find. This particular story does it right-- in my experience, someone always falls in love, and the other usually fights it, so I felt that aspect was relatable. Liz Alden tells a wonderful love story- full of fun, adventure, and some angst, and then she wraps it up in a perfect bow for the readers to feel fuzzy and warm when it ends. It will always draw me to her next novel!

This is an enjoyable novella about whether a friends with benefits relationship can devlop into something more if each person can make some compromises.

It's like a less pretentious novella of A Rainy Day in New York. It was so sweet and romantic but there was also all of the context that I would need for a full length book.
