I'm rating it above average on account of being very well written, and having an interesting plot line.
But, gods, I could not stand Clara. She was such a self-absorbed brat who didn't really appreciate the things in her life. Was I supposed to like that she had a business plan tied to running all over the world living in the memory of what she thought her mother wanted to do? Okay, I got she was traumatized, but she used Nash at every opportunity, and the guy just accepted it because he was desperate for crumbs of her love.
I didn't like the fight, I didn't care for her immaturity in the face of a conversation that Nash was attempting to have with her, and I didn't like Clara's so-called awakening moment that's then followed by her turning up at the man's resort.
I guess, from the framing, that we're supposed to empathize with Clara more than good ol' stable Nash, equally traumatised by his upbringing, who was also working hard (except his job's traditional, you know, so those long hours are less respectable than hers, of course) and making a real effort to balance work with being together with the family while I-will-live-my-mommy's-made-up-dreams-because-I'm-not-clever-enough-to-just-get-therapy-like-normal-people girl travelled the world with only a suitcase? Right. Sure.
I will probably not return to the author on account of clashes of opinion over who deserves sympathy. But, as I said, it's a well-written story and the characters, while annoying, are believable.
