I had forgotten certain aspects of this book, as all readers tend to do, and reading it over again gave me chills anew. I struggled with the Dynamic of Moira and Cian’s relationship more than I did the first time. Perhaps only because my own sense of self is much stronger now than it was then and I would not have appreciated him the way she did. I felt like it was a crap ton of buildup for a few measly pages of final battle showdown. But I still can’t help but give this book five stars. Details, character development, angst, legality, loyalty, strength, this book brings so much to the table and I feel enriched for having it within me.

2024 reread: it’s so interesting rereading this series over the years of my life. As I change, so too does my understanding and perception of this trilogy. As much as I enjoyed my reread it was extremely… jarring? Uncomfortable? Prevalent? How “traditionally” gendered this book is. It could be someone’s thesis on old, irrelevant cis gender ideals.
