Some genuinely clever humor, and a foundational work in adventure and fantasy. But Scott can be too fond of marinating in his characters excessively faux-medieval style of speech and frequent long winded rambles. There is also a degree of antisemitism and racism present in this book that is rather shocking even accounting for the time of writing. Worth a read for historical value, but there is much in this book that should be left in the dustbins of literature.
