This book is a disappointment compared to the first and the series. The characters quite literally fell in love overnight. The exchanges between them were quite humorous, but that doesn’t really compensate for the total lack of substance in the plot. Maybe it was just because I enjoyed the Hidden Prince so much, but I just wasn’t enthralled with this continuation.

Great story, love Tessa's books! I would say this is a sequel to "The Hidden Prince". I don't think you have to read that one first but I'm glad I did as this book continues the story of the people in The Hidden Prince.

-Found family
-Adopted daughter Zarina

When I read stories in the Bible, I want to wrap flesh around the characters. I contemplate the story of who they are beyond the few details of an event involving them. What their family is like. What they enjoy doing. I often wish I could sit with them, enjoy a cup of coffee, and get to know them.

Tessa Afshar brings these possibilities to life in The The Peasant King. We observe upclose how family tensions and conflicts among leaders influence nations, politics, and wars; how their faith is influenced along the journey; and God's hand directing all the players and circumstances to bring the resolution He planned all along. It's quite the adventure!

I received a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Another great book from Tessa Afshar featuring the mysterious and enigmatic King Cyrus the Great, a Persian Prince and strong women. They all come together at a fascinating point in ancient history. If you don't know much about the political background of the ancient Babylonian and Persian Empires, this is perhaps the book for you. It doesn't just feature politics though: there's also romance and danger.
This book is a follow-up to The Hidden Prince and features a couple of the same characters, but can be read on its own.
