Five stars for enjoyment rather than quality.
Detailed explanations of weapons mechanics + crazy threats of nature + good and evil military + at least one vulnerable child = a formula for a classic Matthew Reilly novel. Fairly standard action fair, but with Reilly’s easy, descriptive flair. The overarching complication within the plot is one that’s becoming increasingly relevant today; an insidious politically motivated threat that more and more civilian people are becoming concerned with. That in itself is worth pondering while reading this.
Aside from that though, if you’re wanting to turn your brain off and be thrown into a story without having to wait long for things to heat up, this one (or really, any Reilly novel) is for you.

My first Matthew Reilly book and different to my normal genre. This story is captivating and so easy to read. It's definitely a page turner and hard to put down at times. I'm definitely invested in Scarecrow and can't wait to read more.
A fast paced, completed over the top action story. It reads like an action movie plot and some of the military hardware is bullshit - magnetic grappling hook guns, special forces armed with cross bows, and soldiers surviving and still fighting after losing a leg?!?!
Still - I enjoyed reading it although I wouldn't rate it alongside say Tom Clancy, whose novels are gripping yet more factually based and plausible. Sort of "popcorn reading" I guess you could consider it.

I really enjoyed this book, it was action packed kept you guessing all the way through which i like because it didnt loose any steam in the twists and turns it took. Sometimes books can loose that mysteriousness (for lack of a better word) when it tries to prolong the suspense, but am pleased this one didnt. I did however expect more from the reveal, it seemed to get to the last few chapters and it felt a tad rushed. But ovrall an enjoyable read, on to the second one now.
Solid 3.5
I don't really tend to read books in this genre, so I think that it's something that I would have to get used to.
It was like an action movie playing in my head and I found myself having to pause to try and just picture everyone on the board, so to say.
It was still fun, lots of fighting and explosions and good conspiracy.
Would be open to reading more along this vein.
