Locke is a lovely writer. She brings you into her world, communicates joy and grief in equal measure. I found her story difficult and yet ultimately comforting. We all grieve but we do not all do so with such consciousness, grace, presence, and honesty. A gorgeous read about tremendous pain and promise.

Read for Book Club this is a beautiful memoir of love and loss, set mostly in Sicily and covering the ideas behind cross-cultural relationships and what it is that makes people become family. Definitely a good read, although it may bring up a lot of issues if you are grieving as grief and love are at the heart of the book. I also watched the TV series of the same name last year and found it a beautiful story too.

This book reawakened my love of reading and truly moved me. It’s a beautiful enthralling story that immediately hooks you and takes you on a winding, wandering journey through Sicily & so many other places - both geographically and emotionally.

This book was one of my favorite reads over the past year. This story puts so much into perspective including life, death, legacy, and family. Tembi Locke truly allows you to live alongside her in this heartwarming tale of raising her daughter despite adversity from people and life. I didn't want this book to ever end. Plus, it's currently one of NetFlix's new series releases. You will not be disappointed with this read, just be prepared to cry at certain points it's so poignant. I’m waiting to watch the Netflix shows because I will probably ball like a baby.
