Se due personaggi su tre dei protagonisti non fossero tra i più insopportabili di cui io abbia mai letto probabilmente tutto in questa storia mi sarebbe piaciuto di più.
Le descrizioni, la malinconia dell’infanzia e le incertezze e confusioni dell’adolescenza, i sentimenti contrastanti e confusi per i familiari (in questo caso direi MOLTO confusi), tutto è descritto in modo personale, con questo sfondo quasi fiabesco dell’isola che inizialmente appare come un paradiso: giornate di mare, nessuna scuola, libertà e progetti infiniti. Già sull’isola, però, crescendo, questo paradiso si rivela un luogo ben più complesso, una sorta di prigione (l’immagine è ovviamente amplificata dalla presenza di una effettiva prigione) in cui le opinioni su sé stessi e sugli altri, con l’adolescenza, si distruggono e frantumano.
Appunto, forse il non ritrovarsi nei personaggi e il detestare profondamente il narratore mi hanno impedito di immergermi di più nella storia, ma dubito che Arturo e suo padre siano figure fatte per essere apprezzate dal pubblico.

Short after My Family and Other Animals here we are again reading about a child and "his" island.
The mood is quite different: while Gerry is childishly enthusiastic about anything and Corfu is a paradise for his adventures, Arturo is way more focused on his teen drama and Procida is both a refuge and a prison.

It could easily become one of my favorite books.

Coming of age. I love these kinds of stories. It has a fable/fairytale like element which I really loved.
