Steve Berry is one of my favorite author's to take on vacation. It's a fast paced thriller and even though his hero Cotton Malone is just a little too good at everything to be believable I learn a bit of history in all of his books. I liked this one better than some of the others. I always appreciate the author's note at the end which separates the truth from fiction.

Another great book in the Cotton Malone series, Mr. Berry does not disappoint.
At the end of the last book we were left mourning and wondering what would happen in the next book...it is worth the wait and the ending well it is about time that happened but will it last we will have to wait and see.

It pains me to rate a Steve Berry book so low but lord this book was boring. I didn't like any of the characters except Cotton Malone, the story was trite and felt like a repeat of his last book, and all the Chinese history proved to be a snooze fest for me- literally! I hope Berry's next book in the Cotton Malone series is better.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly. I really like Steve Berry's style: part history, part historical fiction and part action/thriller. After I got tired of Dan Brown's formulaic style, I tried out Berry. Now, he has a formula too, but his books are all different enough that I can read each of them without becoming bored.

This was a perfect follow-up to the previous book in the series.
Berry ties up some loose ends, introduces us to a whole different side of Cotton, takes us where we haven't been before (globally), and keeps us guessing up until the very end.
This is why I like Berry's books -- quick, entertaining, historically fascinating, enjoyable.

What if oil was infinite and all that that implies? Another fun read from Mr. Berry!

Pretty good...I got a little confused with all that went on with eunuchs, oil, Chinese emperors, a double agent, the Russians, a missing kid...it was at times hard to follow although exciting nonetheless.

I'm a fan of Steve Berry's Cotton Malone books, and, therefore, I listen to the audio books while I commute back & forth to work. The reader--Paul Michael--is extremely good at what he does, &, with slight & nuanced voice changes, he gives all the characters their own voice. Cotton is given his own slight Southern accent.
I also enjoy Mr. Berry's books because he skillfully intertwines historical fact, some science, & fiction to tell a highly entertaining story. As a bonus, at the end of each book, he explains what is historic & scientific fact, & what is fiction.
Because of Mr. Berry's books, I have learned some interesting & intriguing things. This book brought the concept of abiotic oil to my attention. Don't know what it is? Google it!
