I did not grasp what was going on in the first half. But the second half was a lot of silly fun.
This was an entertaining Christmas read. It was my first Nancy Mitford read and was reminiscent of [b:Cold Comfort Farm|92780|Cold Comfort Farm|Stella Gibbons|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1416161594l/92780._SY75_.jpg|847348] or [b:High Rising|835437|High Rising (Barsetshire, #1)|Angela Thirkell|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1347849181l/835437._SY75_.jpg|821051]. Some of the references to British things of the time and place went over my head, which was to be expected.
When I first saw there was to be 16 characters, I was overwhelmed and wished there was a characters list and the start with reminders of who each one was but, surprisingly, I kept each character in my mind for the most part.
One caveat, however, was about 10 pages before the end of the story was that she used the n word, which was completely unnecessary and could have been replaced with another word that would have suited better without offending anyone. This took me out of the story and lessened my enjoyment of it.
