Bad, childish, rancid.

Absolutely essential reading material, Kundera will live forever in my mind whether he wants to or not tee-hee

Couldn't finish it.

Just incredible. A laborious read, but worth it nonetheless. I aspire to have a mind as deeply thoughtful as Kundera’s.

From the sight of a woman waving to her swimming instructor, Kundera creates a character, and from that character, a novel about the immortality of being remembered after death—how it matters to this woman and the love triangle that forms between her husband and her sister.

Into this discussion enter the historical characters Johannes Goethe and his frenemy Bettina von Amin; and their relationship adds to Kundera's image of immortality.

Kundera writes himself into the frame narrative of the novel, busily inventing characters, and interacting with one—Professor Avenarius—whose coincidental interactions with the other characters tie the narrative together and help develop another theme—that of synchronicity.

This was my favorite book. I love this author
funny lighthearted reflective medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

one of the best books i have ever read

Full of truths and not inconsiderable beauty.
