challenging informative slow-paced

the historical anecdotes were interesting and provided some insightful context. that said, some bits were made very easy to understand while others presumed more of an understanding in investment concepts than i was led to believe from the outset. i don't THINK i'm dumb, but there were parts that i found myself rereading over and over and over until i was convinced that either i'm an idiot, there's a typo, or malkiel isn't trying as hard as he claims to lower investing's barrier to entry.

would i recommend this book? probably. i wouldn't promise it's an enjoyable read beyond page ~100 or so, but it's probably helpful for people who have a better understanding of finance than i do. i feel like i definitely learned a lot, but i also feel there's a big void in my understanding between the simplest and more complex concepts.

check back with me in about 30yrs and see if i'm a millionaire - that'll be the ultimate test of how good this book is.
