These stories seemed like they belonged in different collections, and while I enjoyed some, I just couldn't maintain enough interest to finish the rest.

Where to even begin? This book was a masterpiece and I cannot recommend it enough. I loved the haphazard mix of science-fiction, fantasy, biography and Asian history.

Ken Liu wrote stories set in the stars, under the ocean floor or in the murky past, but they all felt so intimate and real, despite their unreality.

Countless times I was driven to introspection, considering the moral implications of each of his stories. The Paper Menagerie had me sobbing in to my partner's arms, promising I would call my family and tell them what they meant to me. State Change had me wondering about the shape of my soul and what my next state change was - had I already been through it?

Liu gave us unlikely protagonists whose perspectives helped shape each world. History, pain, devotion, true love and sacrifice were weaved in each of their words. Words like wild flowers, blossoming from the heart, plucked and presented to us.

Absolutely stunning stories. Gorgeous writing, fantastic concepts and ideas, and gut-punching emotion throughout. A magnificent collection, if deeply sad at times.

Generally very good story collection! There's certainly some common themes throughout, which can help tie them together and feel nice and cohesive, but can also be difficult to launch right into another story with similar themes after just finishing one. I liked most of the stories, some gems some just ok. Very good book for taking at a relaxed pace.
