Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: Guardians Disassembled by Kelly Sue DeConnick, Brian Michael Bendis

Would have been 4 stars but there were too many unrelated issues in this volume. Thanos, spider-verse, Catain Marvel, Venom. I enjoyed the Spider-man and Venom issues but theycwerent really contected to the overall story arc. As for the main Guardians story, I really enjoyed that including the addition of Agent Venom (Flash) to the team. Loved the artwork of these issues too (until the very end of the last GotG issue, then the artwork went seriously wonky). (Wasn't keen on the artwork for Captain Marvel.)
Overall I'd have liked more of the main story and less filler.

The Guardians get captured, the Guardians escape. Repeatedly.
I don’t understand the ending, and there’s a lot of filler of vaguely related issues at the back.
Very unsatisfactory.

This had the potential to be another really enjoyable volume of GotG (now with a sappy, mostly benign Venom!). Here's where I think Bendis went wrong: almost every page and every issue in this very thin arc (if it can even be called that) repeats the previous one. The SuperTeam disassembled individually thing has been done before, and has been done in much more interesting ways. Even the X-Men's second adventure with Claremont at the helm made good use of each character's uniqueness when they were abducted, mind-controlled, and forced to perform in a traveling circus. In this volume, we turn each page to see a different planet of baddies involved in a galactic conspiracy to dismantle the Guardians. Each scene plays out pretty much the exact same way: lone Guardian is captured and bombarded with verbal and physical abuse, while being told they're going to pay for various trumped-up charges. They each fight hard and talk lots of shit. We turn more pages to see this happen over and over with nothing new or interesting going on. Eventually someone breaks free and starts saving the others, which looks quick and easy.
Snooooozerrrrrr.
They had to bulk up this volume by padding it with old issues of Captain Marvel and Spider-Man, just because? Those were actually better than the main issues written by Bendis.
Lots of fun characters in the Guardians, but the generic and tedious plotting of the action in this section was ill-thought-out.

You can tell when Bendis has written something. The quality is just that much higher!

2.5 stars (rounded up to 3). This felt like a book written by committee. The first volume in the series was a great kick off and then volume 2 followed a completely new plotline to introduce a new character to Marvel, Angela. While this book does pick up the exciting plotline of Volume 1, it mostly ignores volume 2. Angela appears in 2 pages of this comic and it is unclear why she is not with the Guardians at the start of the book. Not helping the disjointedness of the series is the fact that Iron Man, for no specified reason, is no longer the Earther of the book, replaced by Agent Venom. Captain Marvel also makes an appearance but for no specified reason than to be a deus ex machina. The art changed from page to page. There were 3 different Draxs within 6 pages. There are better Guardians books and better Bendis books. Seek elsewhere.

Dumb. And that's without considering that Groot plays better in the movie than he does in print. Uninteresting plot, okay art, not well used characters. The best part was Tony Stark and Flash Thompson on Earth at the very beginning - it was all downhill from there. None of these characters are worth caring about as they are presented.
