I enjoyed the story as well as the history lessons, which gave some context to Alaska and wolves. There were a range of emotions, including being absolutely disgusted with the human race as well as grateful for kind-hearted people.
Even though I knew the end, I was still so heartbroken and angry.
Amazing book! Had me go to through all sorts of emotions. All the way to me crying at the very end.
I’ve been a long time wolf lover and when i was gifted this signed book for christmas i knew it would be a good read. i’m so sorry it took me this long as it was well worth it. his story only fuels my love and support for wolves and i encourage anyone to read this book and even donate to any wildlife or wolf sanctuary.

The author keeps a great balance between an obvious preservation mindset and the justified fears the wolf (initially) brings to the community. The little facts about wolves throughout the book were also neat but it just wasn't my type of book.

The sad but at times wondrous story of a friendly wolf, the community that loved him, and the scumbag hunters who hated him. This book did nothing to change my view of hunters as inveterate psychopaths, nor that the law is a ass. I can't say I enjoyed reading the entire book, as many sections (particularly in the latter half) are deeply disturbing, but I might be interested in reading another of Jans' books on Alaska, provided it is not as horrific as this one.

Charmingly written, well researched and enlightening, this book explores what can happen when man communes with nature and what unlikely bonds can come of it. This beautiful black wolf touched the hearts of many directly and, writer Nick Jans does so much more than just preserve his story for posterity, he allows readers like myself who never met this creature be touched as well. Fantastic.

This was a haunting story and a thoroughly engrossing read. What an experience it must have been to share a chapter of your life with this beautiful wolf that captured the hearts of so many.
The horrific ending to Romeo's life was profoundly sad as was how the perpetrators essentially got away with it.
Long may this wolf be remembered and his legacy live on through conservation efforts and education.
