One of my favorites of this whole series, I adore a Tiberius moment and the mystery is well done as well. Stoker and Veronica’s tension is back after the events in book seven, and I honestly loved it.
Thank you so much to Berkley and Netgalley for providing an advanced copy of this. All thoughts and opinions are still my own.
I absolutely adore this series. Veronica and Stoker will forever have a special place in my heart, and picking up one of their books is always such a fun time.
I love this series because I pretty much always know what I'm going to get and that it will be something I enjoy. I love going into a book that feels this comforting and a guaranteed good read. I'm so attached to these characters and the mysteries are always so fun and cozy.
This one in particular is a very closed door mystery. The cast is very limited and it had a classic whodunit feel.
But I think my favorite part of this entire book - was Veronica finally having to face and take responsibility for her actions.
Over the series, we've watched Veronica put up a facade and shield against the world. And because of that, she has taken advantage of Stoker and his immense feelings for her. And all of it came to a head at the end of book 7.
In this, Veronica finally had to grovel. And I loved seeing that. Stoker is one of my favorite male leads, and he deserved all the groveling.
My one thought upon finishing it was this -- this book felt like a goodbye.
I have no idea if there are more books coming in this series (if you know please let me know). But this book felt like a conclusion.
I really hope it isn't because I would read an endless amount of books set in this world, following these characters.

I want this series to never end.

I'm so happy that I enjoyed this book because I was starting to consider DNFing this series, I loved the first 4 books but I had a lot of issues with the last 3 books (especially books 5 and 6). One of my main problems with the past few books is that the mystery starts halfway through the book, which means the first half drags a lot. But that didn't happen in this book, I was interested in the story from the very beginning, and I liked that there were some personal stakes in the mystery, some of my favorite side characters were present and as always Veronica and Stoker were great.
