Read this for a law school class. Bound to become a favorite of mine. This bucks the idea that leaders need to be “well-rounded” or good at everything all the time. Instead, this book (and the Strengths test you can take in conjunction with it) advocate for playing to your strengths as a leader. I plan on coming back to this again and again to remind myself what I am good at and how to maximize my and others’ strengths.

Like its predecessor, this is not a book that you read. However, it’s a fantastic book if you want to learn how to take your test results and apply them in leadership positions.

A good book for sure- though the context of the first 100 pages is perhaps not as necessary if you are already an in-depth study of strengthsfinders. The greatest value comes in the latter half of the book, in the targeted pages on each strength, which identify ways that leaders with specific strengths can build trust, show compassion, provide stability, and create hope (the four most essential hallmarks of a successful leader and fills the employees' greatest needs). It also singles out management strategies if you have employees on your team have specific strengths- I found these to be especially insightful (as, of course I've adapted strategies for my strengths to support my leadership- but I don't live in my employees' brains, and it's great to see an extra glimmer of what they might need from me). A quick and great read!

This was an assigned reading for work but I didn't mind it. I've had to read so many business books when managers hop onto the newest trend and sometimes they can be very cumbersome to get through. This moved quickly and had a very simple lesson: Figure out what you're good at and figure out where you're weak. Once you understand your weaknesses, hire people to fill in those areas so you have a well-rounded team.

You should read the first half of the book, take the assessment and then the last portion of the book is a detailed breakdown of each leadership trait. What I like about this is that it doesn't simply just tell you what you should do as someone with the "Woo" trait, it also adds in a little about how you should manage someone with the woo trait. I took the assessment and when reading the characteristics of each trait, it hit the mark pretty well. It's a good guide - better than a lot of the other ones I've done.

A good summary of leading with strengths; the back section is perhaps most useful, where it highlights HOW to lead using each character strength.
