An intense and powerful narrative that explores the effects of life experiences and sexual encounters that ultimately shape who women become.

I’m very torn with my rating for this book. Obviously it’s a book of nonfiction that follows the real and raw stories of three women dealing with the complications of sex and relationships in very different ways. I found the ending to each retelling unsatisfying, but that makes sense because the “ending” of each real story is unsatisfying.

It was a difficult read, but I found myself most invested in Maggie. While the other stories were difficult, heartbreaking, and empowering in their own ways, I kept wanting to go back to Maggie story and rushing through the others. I want to know what happened to her and how she is now.
I want to know what happened to him. Did he ever do it again? Was he ever punished?

The writing in and of itself is told in such an engaging way. Even though this is a nonfiction read, each of the retellings read like a narrative, which helped keep me engaged.
