One of the first books on this subject matter. Nowadays we have a lot of choice when it comes to books about CPTSD or trauma in general. While I can see how this book has its positives, I can't see how it could be of any use to someone who already knows they have CPTSD. It doesn't quite have any suggested tools or next steps, it is purely targeted at people who need an explanation on why CPTSD is real and it basically helps the reader understand just how deep the damage really goes. The mood of this book is truly depressing, dismal, and absolutely bleak, and I don't blame it for that since we people affected by CPTSD are truly fucked and need a lot of healing to go through compared to most people. But honestly, is it really helpful to have this much on the theory? It may be personal taste, but I find it more practical to have actionable steps and recommendations, especially since people reading this book are the exact kind of people that are searching for help and guidance to get better. While it does guide readers to their website near the end of the novel, I find that a very lazy thing to do. Especially since the book was reprinted and it's a much later edition, they could have simply added those website articles in the book to begin with. Nevertheless, I read it out of respect for being a historical book. It just isn't that useful based on my criteria on whether a self-help book is actually helpful or not.
