The Alex Cross novels provide an interesting bit of reading for me. And a huge challenge.
Interesting bit? They are great stories with lots of action and really interesting plots.
The challenge? The writing is overdone, bloated, and just plain ridiculous at times.
I try to chalk this up to being an older series of books but the truth is that the romance scenes always make me roll my eyes and the dialogue that Patterson writes for both Alex and Christine is cringe-worthy. His relationships with his kids and grandmother seem equally crazy and far fetched.
The criminal in this novel is interesting - but so psychotic that it's hard to really get a feel for the guy. And the constant POV changing makes the mystery less exciting. We know how the novel is going to end. We are not surprised that the good guys win the day.
I keep hoping as the novels go on that his characters will feel less flat and more interesting.

This book was better than the last two. Still very much a Patterson formula but better writing.
Christine is missing, Alex is back home and fumbling through life as best as he can. Alex and a couple of the other detectives are working a case against them he Jane Does in their area on their own time. Then Alex is pulled into a case for a white gentleman that was murdered and this case takes all his time an attention. They call the killer the weasel which is very fitting and the case explodes.
I really like this series. On to the next book.

With every installment to this series it just wants to make me read it more and more. With the series being very long, it's nice how Patterson changes each book so much. This book added a few new characters into the story line, which Patterson used to make more complex plot twists. I will continue to finish this series because the plot twists always keep me guessing until the very end.
I definitely liked this one better than the last two. It was also a nice surprise at the end.
Pretty average Alex Cross book. Made me mad halfway through and made up for it at the end.
Tough weekend for reading ahead, hoping not to fall too far behind.

It's a pretty boring part of the series until some kind of action happens. Can't wait to read the London bridges book with the two killers together!

Perfectly adequate. Better than some of the previous entries in the series. The treatment of the whole Christine Johnson subplot seemed like a side note at times and was wrapped up oddly. Overall, it was a fast read that kept me turning pages.
Not a bad story and the narrator (I listened to this on audio) overall was good but he needs to either practice his Jamaican accent or stop doing it. It was more Pakistani than Jamaican and was laughable. Also, he needs to be reminded that not all English people talk with a plum in their mouths. All the English people in the book spoke like a boarding school-bred Hooray Henry. Trust me. We do not all sound like that!
The story itself was fast-paced but it was just like every other thriller and didn't bring anything else to the table. Not bad but it needed to be different.
