This is not the kind of atlas you would use for school projects (especially because not each and every country is pictured) but that's why kids will like it! Rather than focusing on facts and figures, the Mizielinksa's focus on the cultural things that make each country wonderful and depict each item with an illustration. From important people, to delicious foods, to historical places, and beyond, this book is a visual exploration of our world. Maps would be a great gift book because it is both striking in its large format and fun illustrations, and of universal interest. Curious little ones, kids who enjoy the seek & find format, and children who just enjoy learning about different places and people will all enjoy it. I would say ages 5-9, but that is a loose guide.

Loved the illustrations. Not just a simple map book. A good book to read with children.

Elaborate maps illustrate 52 countries. Rich with geographic detail. A visual delight.

An overwhelmingly complex and pleasantly illustrated book that would require multiple, multiple sittings to fully embrace and understand.

This was a selection for the Butler Center's Mock CaldeNott - considering only picture books for children published outside the United States. Even though I wasn't able to attend the discussion, I got hold of all ten of the shortlisted books and quickly devoured them.

Such a beautiful atlas for kids (and grown ups). I will enjoy looking at this with Catherine as she learns about the world. My only complaint is that there are no Central American maps (pointed out to me by someone who has travelled to and loves CA).

Absolute coolness!

The whole family enjoyed this book that brought so many facts and information into great pictures. It did miss some of the countries that I would have liked to have included but perhaps there will be another one to capture those that are missed.

While this atlas does not include a map for every country in the world, the country maps it does include could leave you staring at this book for hours with all of its detail. Each map includes tiny illustrations representing industries, animals, famous/historical people, agriculture, and cultural information. Great illustrations and information for map and fact junkies.

Gorgeous detail.

coolest hand drawn world maps ever. This is a fantastic book!
