Phew. The illustrations complement Reynolds’s story. I felt Will’s plight.
Audience - who is this book for? MA/YA. Someone who is Will, someone who is not will.

Adults who don’t understand cycles of violence, suppression of grief, loss upon loss upon loss.

Beautiful words from Jason Reynolds! Will struggles with the murder of his brother, and meetsother-wordly persons from his past to help him process his emotions- especially those of anger, honor, and revenge.

I love Reynolds' writing, but I felt like some parts were missing in this graphic novel adaptation. Regardless, still a good read. I think this book will appeal to some reluctant teen readers.

I originally gave this book 3 stars, but the more time that elapsed afterwards- the more it stuck with me- I realized it’s an incredibly written novel. Written as short poems. Engaging and heartbreaking. The ending is SO GOOD- written for it’s intended audience so beautifully. The ending doesn’t give you answers but allows you to interpret it the way you need to. So beautiful!
