The case against Jodi Arias was absolutely fascinating to read about. As someone who was not living in Arizona at the time of the murder, I was still incredibly aware of what had happened to victim Travis Alexander. Now living in Arizona, the book is incredibly detailed and really orients you to the nature of the case. I thought the book was thorough and riveting.

The world was blessed the day Juan Martinez decided to go to law school!

Having followed all the days of the trial on YouTube, this was a nice adjunct. Juan Martinez is a genius and how he handled this case is legendary. The book doesn't read as a transcript for the trials, it skips over many parts (like the computer guy that the defence brought in that was trying to show how a reflection of Jodi could be seen in Travis's eyes) and focuses more on the key points of the trial. The book is written matter-of-factly with the occasional witticism by Mr Martinez that had also been a part of the trial.

I was one of the masses obsessed with this trial so I was pleased reading Juan Martinez's point of view. It was interesting to read about all the pre-trial drama and to read chronologically how the trial progressed.
Though the book read easy, I was disappointed that after a methodical summation of pre-trial and of the witnesses on the stand before Arias, Arias' testimony and anything after were lacking. The redirect, the rebuttal witnesses and then the portion of questions posed by the jury felt rushed and I felt myself wanting more. Then, not much about the second and third phases of the trial either, including during the retrial where one of the jury was suspected of being against the death penalty.
At any rate, for anyone who followed this trial, the book is enjoyable and an easy read.

This trial absolutely fascinated me. From the sheer horror of the crime, to the denial and lies, the forgery, media interactions and trial proceedings. I feel guilty for admitting that initially just based on first opinions I was shocked and I couldn’t believe that Jodi Arias, such a innocent looking young woman at the time, could have committed such a horrific murder. The book gave me the extra insight i was looking for in terms of the trial. Learning more about her parents, the secret messages sent in the magazines and her email correspondence just weeks before the murder. If this case baffles you as much as it did me, this book is worth a read.

I think 4 stars may be too generous as a personal rating… but probably appropriate for 95% of readers who aren’t as familiar with the case as I am. I wanted to learn things, which didn’t really happen but I think that’s my fault. It’s neat to have a true crime book written by someone who was involved with the case professionally. It was clear and well organized, pacing was solid and the narrative arc of weaving together the trial and the case was well done.

I have only seen bits and pieces of the trial through real crime shows like 48 hours and Dateline so I was intrigued to read about the trial and get a more in depth look at this case. Juan Martinez had a great strategy for prosecuting Arias and exposed her tricks and lies on the stand very well. I was happy to have read this book and gained more insight into all the things Jodi did to try and cover up the murder of Travis and it's extremely horrible and tragic that this happened to Travis. Overall, very pleased to have read this book about the case and recommend it to anyone wanting to know about the Jodi Arias case.

This is an in-depth look at Jodi Arias' criminal prosecution for the murder of Travis Alexander, written by the prosecuting attorney, Juan Martinez. He begins the book with the murder itself and ends with Arias' sentencing. I had followed Jodi Arias' case in the news but Mr. Martinez explains how he discovered certain key elements to the prosecution and also explained what happens during the days leading up to the trial, which I thought was very informative and interesting.
