there are several facets of this book i find illuminating about the fast food industry, and some material i perceive as fluff that detracts from a central thesis. most especially, the material i perceive as fluff is the lengthy treatment the book gives mcdonalds, which gives me an impression that the critique this book offers is for a specific restaurant chain. and though i do believe mcdonalds is characteristic of american fast food as an industry, i think the book crosses over a threshhold from providing a characteristic example to leveling a pointed critique. nonetheless, moving on to what i do perceive as noteworthy observation of such industry, first is regarding how intimately growth of fast food interconnects with the technological revolution, in which more resources are allocated to machines that simplify food production, rather than the workers serving food, though i do think the author doesnt give as much treatment to offering a solution to this conundrum as he could in the epilogue, in which he attempts to offer solution to some dilemmas the book poses. however, in the aforementioned epilogue, the author does suggest one solution with which i agree that the united states will continue to suffer foodborne illness while cohesiveness between the different departments governing food and agriculture is lacking.
