I like the Japanese style simple but poetic and with a lot of love for the small things in live ....but in this case they seemed to be a bit too small. Maybe I underestimate the job of a piano tuner but the protagonist annoyed me with his anxiousness, he seemed to make a very very very big deal out of it, how would he have coped if he became a neurosurgeon?
(And I am an anxious person myself).
None of the characters were interesting or had any depth.
Also sometimes the dialogues didn't make sense to me but that might be due to culture or translation.

“Music is there to help us enjoy life, not as a means to outdo everyone else. Even if you do compete and a winner is picked – the person who enjoys himself the most is always the real winner.”

In this short book centered on the story of a boy who wants to become a piano tuner, the characters around him somehow-as well as the keys of a piano-contribute to create a choral story in which everyone is more important than their singularity, starting with the main character. The title then also made me discover that the piano hammers are covered in wool.

3.5. This isn't really something I'd normally choose to read, but I was on Libby browsing, and I wound up looking at the most recently added titles and this one just intrigued me.

Tomura is our main character who embarks on a journey as a piano tuner, after hearing the sounds of a piano being tuned at his school. You could probably call this a coming-of-age novel, but the focus is more a meditative look at following your dreams, and frankly the beauty of music and pianos in particular. We spend multiple years with Tomura, as he learns from a number of different tuners, but again the plot isn't really what we're here for. All in all this was a relaxing, enjoyable read. I did feel like some of the dialogue was stilted but that could just be a product of the translation.

This was a lovely story about finding your dreams and what gives your life meaning. It was very enjoyable to see Tomura's journey from the moment he chose to become a piano tuner to his apprenticeship and beyond, sharing his struggles and moments of confidence along the way.
While it wasn't anything groundbreaking, it was still a charming read in its simplicity.

This is a short book but it’s a very cute and thoughtful piece about one specific subject: finding your passion, and how you know if you’ve got what it takes to pursue it. In the novel, Tomura is seventeen years old when he first hears a piano being tuned and it awakens in him emotions he’s never quite felt before. From that moment on he knows the path he wants to take ‘through the forest’ of life: to become a piano tuner himself one day. He enrols in a piano tuning school and then we follow Tomura on his journey in learning and watching his mentors. Tomura is not confident about his own abilities and is an endearing character to read about as he conscientiously tries to do the best job he can for each and every customer, honestly and thoughtfully. With a meticulous approach and plenty of hard work he is yet beset by doubts about whether he has any innate talent, whether he is good enough, whether he should give up or carry on, and I think this is something everyone can relate to. There’s also plenty of interesting facts about pianos and music that music lovers would find interesting!
