This book did look good, however was was sorely disappointed with it.

I liked Kevin, Tess, Mike and Hope.

Mia annoyed me. It seemed Hope was more adult than Mia who acted more like a spoilt child, especially if she didn't get her own way.

I also had a WTF moment at the ending. In no way did the book feel finished or complete. I felt cheated for lack of a decent ending and just stared at my kindle blindly thinking, REALLY?? Thats it? WTF!!!!

All i can say is that Mia has some serious growing up to do and Kevin is too good for her.

Personally not a book I will be recommending.

I wasn't too sure about this book to start out with. Right off the bat, Mia is leaving Kevin's bed in the wee hours of the morning. Kevin really likes her and wants to start something, but Mia is extremely gun-shy and doesn't want anything more than what she is getting...hot sex. I almost want to smack Mia through most of this book. I mean, come on, a hot teacher that rides a motorcycle?! Jeez...by the end, though, she finally got her act together and owned up to what she really wanted...of course. Jill Shalvis is a little predictable, but that is what I love about her books. You are guaranteed a happy ending. There are plenty of times when that is all you need....

I have yet to read anything by Jill Shalvis that I didn't absolutely adore. This story takes shares the tale of self-made woman Mia Appleby. Mia has earned her way out of a Tennessee trailer park and into a corner office in an ad agency in Los Angeles. But to do it she has focused on the work and men were just for stress relief. Until she meets the hot science teacher down the block. The chemistry is off the charts. But when he wants more can she let go and live or will she end up alone after all. This is an incredibly sweet, sexy and funny all the things Jill Shalvis does best. This book also makes you think and may just break your heart.

Loved this book. So much dysfunction in the characters, but not in a mean way. Mia was determinedly independent because she didn't want to be like her mother, always looking for a man to take care of her. So she would use men, but not let anyone get close to her. Kevin was a chronic fixer. He wanted to take care of everyone - his brother, Mia, Hope, his students. His brother Mike had spent years playing his brother, and not taking responsibility for anything. Hope just wanted a better life, and kept people from seeing her insecurity with her bad attitude. As all these people came together, they started to change and see things could be different. The idea of opening up scared Mia to death, and she nearly destroyed her relationships with Kevin and Hope. I loved the humor in the story - lots of LOL moments. My only difficulty with the book was the poor editing/proofreading. I'd be reading merrily away and get pulled out of the story by a typo or missing word, etc.

This was an arc of an already released book from netgalley in exchange for a review. This Book didn't do me any favors as I tried to get through it. Kevin seemed like a decent and sexy guy and made it hard to see why Mia was such a bitch to him. Which immediately set me back in this book, men have a hard enough time having to put up with bitchy women only to see explosive chemistry pissed on by some bitch. It was a bit over the top for my liking, especially when she didn't even know her niece, and he was all mr nice guy about it.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I've read Shalvis before and enjoyed her work, so it surprised me that this book made me so uncomfortable. Maybe it hit some of my buttons - main character Mia is forced into a pretty awkward situation when her personal and professional lives both hit the fan, as it were, at the same time.

There's a distinct inequality between Mia and love interest Kevin who seems to have all the answers. My problem is that as explosive as their chemistry is, Mia's still expected to change to make their relationship work. Now, yes, she's very closed off and independent and has a hard time with emotional intimacy, BUT.... It feels like there should have been some middle ground.

I don't know what it was, but I had a really hard time with how down on Mia everyone seemed. That said, I still couldn't put the book down, and I was rooting for everything to work out okay in the end.

This isn't Shalvis' best, but it was still good enough for a read.

What’s not to love? You take Mia with her rough background and her conquer the world through hard work and keeping your eye on the prize attitude. She doesn’t have time for relationships, men or family. There is no way she is going to let her world revolve around a man. She is the center of her own universe. Then you throw a little bump in the road, a bump that is a motorcycle driving hottie with a soft heart and a mission to heal those around him. Kevin McNight was melt your heart worthy. His work with troubled teens and support for his deaf brother is nothing short of saintly. But saintly isn’t what is on Mia’s mind. She has conquering the mighty McNight mountain on her to-do list. A night of working off aggression and steam is the perfect mind cleanser. But she just can’t shake him. You throw in some lovable secondary characters and you’ve got romance gold.

It has all the ingredients, but is missing that special something. It probably wasn’t wise to step into SHALVIS‘ backlist after main-lining three LUCKY HARBOR books in a row. LUCKY HARBOR has something special. It is organic and the chemistry leaps off the page. HER SEXIST MISTAKE, though completely enjoyable, felt like I was being told repetitively how to feel as opposed to all the subtle acts evoking all the FEELS automatically.

My review cross-posted from Wit and Sin: http://witandsin.blogspot.com/2014/12/review-her-sexiest-mistake-by-jill.html

Her Sexiest Mistake is a story of flawed people with big hearts finding their way. Author Jill Shalvis never fails to entertain, and I devoured this sexy, heartwarming book in one sitting.

I absolutely adored Mia. She’s smart, relatable, and does her best even when she’s in over her head both at work and in her personal life. She makes mistakes, quite a few of them, in her quest to separate herself from her past. I appreciated her reasoning even when I knew she was heading in the wrong direction. And to be perfectly honest, I loved that she was flawed. It was wonderful watching her successful but empty life fill with joy over the course of Her Sexiest Mistake as Mia opens her heart not just to Kevin, but to her niece, Hope. And speaking of Kevin…man, he is definitely not a mistake. He is, however, sexy as hell, along with patient and kind. He’s not perfect, but he’s pretty close. Kevin’s most endearing quality – giving all of himself to help others – is also what threatens to break his heart. Both Mia and Kevin’s brother, Mike, try his patience over the course of the story, but both plotlines are ultimately rewarding. Falling in love definitely isn’t easy on either Mia or Kevin, but Ms. Shalvis makes every obstacle worth it in the end.

Her Sexiest Mistake is different from many of Ms. Shalvis’s newer books in a way I can’t quite explain. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed the change of pace from one of my favorite authors. Mia, Kevin, and their loved ones are characters who will stay with you, and I can’t wait to read Her Sexiest Mistake again!

When I saw this book on NetGalley, I was instantly excited. New Jill Shalvis! Except that it's not. It's a re-release from 2005. And it's not as good as her more recent works.
Mia Appleby is trying to be the perfect woman. She's trying to overcome her past where her mother and sister concentrated so hard on finding a man that they couldn't get ahead in life. But when the book opens, Mia is running away after waking up in the bed of teacher Kevin McKnight.
Through the course of the book, we see Mia juggle stress from work, stress from Kevin's pursuit, and stress from the goth-y niece who shows up on her doorstep one day. But we don't really see her grow. And there's not really a sens of Kevin being anything but perfect. Unlike her later books, I really didn't care about these characters and couldn't wait for the book to be over. To be honest, if it weren't for being an ARC, this book would have been a DNF for me.
Will I stop reading Shalvis books? Dear God no. But will I recommend this one? Probably not.
