Four young women, friends for awhile, lose each other as the outside world makes it hard for them to remain close.

Reading this while in NYC felt appropriate, unfortunately only read it after moving from Brooklyn to Queens though.
The characters were very well fleshed out and each had their own characteristics, good and bad - multifacetted and complex is always nice to read. Story with a sad side, very well done in short form, I enjoyed just having those glimpses into their life and short overview over the teenage years of it and it not being stretched unnecessarily. Skilled use of words as well.

Just absolutely beautiful.

Beautiful

A beautiful, heart-wrenching look into a very important life.
fast-paced

Jacqueline Woodson writes beautifully. Every word and phrase is there for a reason and is crafted with a lyricism that catches your breath. She tells the story of growing up so perfectly. I loved this book.

3.5

Beautifully written, heartbreaking, coming of age, coming to grips with death, of a time and place well described. Wonderful insights. I found the writing style close to poetry.
