Probably my favorite fairy tale due to the great puns, amazing writing, and the fact that George MacDonald was the first writer of fantasy--inspiring C.S. Lewis and Mark Twain. Very light-hearted and meant to be silly.

MacDonald makes fun of the "gravity" of philosophers and scientists--something quite worth doing as they like to think they are profound but cannot, ultimately, say anything meaningful about love.

I don't know why he chose to make fun of Asian philosophers--such attitudes were, I think, taken for granted in those days when England was still one of the world's greatest powers.

This was just a little too odd for me, and a little creepy.

This was so much sweeter and deeper and more lovely than I expected!

CW: Grief, brief insensitive portrayal of Asian characters

I got this book recommended to me by a friend and I read it this morning before I got out of bed.

I love fairy tales and this was a good one. It made we want to reproduce so that I could read it to my children ;)

A friend read this book to me over the past weekend. The writing is delightfully witty and the lessons are deep. I enjoyed it tremendously. Yes, it is a fairy tale, with witches and such, but the lessons and the humor made me greatly enjoy it. I'll probably read it again sometime.

I wish I would have read this one as a child, it was a very optimistic fairytale and I didn't really mind the curse because the Princess could not only defy gravity but also not get upset, she always looked at the brighter side of things. I mean my review is literally something the author wouldn't like since the reader was not supposed to be optimistic about the curse xD
