i had been waiting for this book since their handshake scene in the last book and could not wait to see how their relationship played out and gah am i so happy!! 🩷
at first i was hesitant with where it was leading when i heard about the 'forgotten memories' part but it was so well written, you couldn't hold on to any anger for it - gideon was an amazing character and was accepting, open-minded and gentle throughout the whole of the first half (in Tenebris) and although at times he was downright a dick towards aleron afterwards (back alive) he was constantly trying to be better with his situation and you know deep down he was still that kind loving open-minded guy. i loved his humour and everything he did to help aleron, they balanced each other so well, he was an overall great character and a fave MC this series has offered!

“The only thing likely to bite you is me."
"You know I bite back."
aleron, the sweetest, most gentle and fair-minded mavka ever to exist!! he surpassed ALL expectations, i had a strong feeling he was going to be a favourite and god was he! the maturity he had despite having low humanity was outstanding, and the way he learnt his knowledge just by gideon explaining stuff to him?? we haven't had that with any other duskwalkers and it truly shows how much he was eager to learn regardless of his disadvantages of low humanity levels. he has definitely made #1 fav duskwalker for this series!! (merikh you're still #1 too 💓) i honestly loved everything about aleron and his character arc was brilliant 🩷 plus his wings love language 🫶🫶🫶🫶 (and them being described as his heartbeat ðŸ˜)
'He taught me how to win him back.'
their relationship was honest to god beautiful! their progression the first time round and second time were both different yet held the same amount of love and in spite of their struggles along the way, they tried tried tried, aleron deserves an award for all he did, as well as forgave, Most Patient and Mature mavka award straight to him please 🙌✨ from their hand holding, playfulness, jokes and teaching, to their constant support and love shown to each other not only spoken aloud but internally thought too, their story certainly delivered and Opal did an amazing job with them! the fact that they then promised eachother to fall back in love every time???? to weather those struggles time and time again if need be?? no one can outdo them (i will be eager for more crumbs of them though ðŸ˜)
'Gideon’s fully flaming soul only added to the beauty of his bony face, simply because of what it represented: their everlasting bond.'
i would say, the reunion scene between ingram and aleron fell a little flat, but im super happy that they get to constantly be with eachother now. i can't wait to see the next book, as im supeerrr intrigued to find out who the serpent head mavka is going to end up with, and how his story might go 🧡
