This book is awesome. I wanted to read this because I’ve been wanting to read books similar to Three Dark Crowns lately, and this satisfied my wanting that sort of plot while also bringing unique aspects to the story.
One thing that I was very happy to find in this book was a love subplot between 2 women. And it was the only actual relationship subplot in the book, no less. During the first scene they had together, I thought my shipping them was just wishful thinking, but it turned out they really were flirting, it wasn’t just my reading too much into the subtext for once.
Unlike Three Dark Crowns, this book kept the story very much tied to the three girls without side characters stealing their screen time.
The only thing I really felt could have been improved was the magic system. This may be the messiest and least explained magic system I’ve ever encountered with the most stuff they can suddenly do at convenient times within that magic system. It was a unique magic system over all, but I wish it had been executed better.

Primer libro de esta saga que me ha encantado y que nos deja con final abierto

Solid 3.5. It’s a grower, not a shower. What a way to end it. Sheesh.

** I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. **

This book can easily be separated into 3 parts for me. The beginning, which was intriguing with the world-building and getting to know the 3 main characters. The middle, which almost bored me to tears and had me wondering if it was okay to not finish an ARC. And the end, which picked back up enough for me to finish the book. While this book has its flaws with dull points in the storyline, Goodlett makes up for it with the points in the book where I wanted to keep reading to find out what happened.

I’m finding the characters annoying and don’t find the plot enticing enough to continue
medium-paced

It was difficult to stay engaged with. Switched to the audiobook and the different voice actors for the entire cast was distracting. Ultimately the book doesn't have a resolution, it just ends. I was disappointed.

Dont get me wrong, the characters in Rule are great. I like their different personalities and backrounds and the emphasis the author put on making sure we get an indepth perspective on each sisters' upbringing and the roles that play in the kingdoms society. I just felt too much of the story was wasted on plot points that felt pointless and not enough going into figuring out who the black mailer was. Plus, all this build up for it not to even be who they thought it was felt like a waste of time. I'm also disappointed it ended on a cliffhanger.
