3.5 Didn't love the writing style. The author presented many different theories of atonement, which was interesting but his tone was kind of detatched-like he wasn't entirely sure he believed the theories himself. Also, some of the historical and geographical stuff wasn't new or compelling to me.
But- this book still had me thinking. It challenged me to think about why I believe what I believe, and to see myself in some of the people of the story that I don't usually identify with.

This book is a good read for anyone who wants to better understand the historical context and details of Jesus' last days on earth.
Adam Hamilton is a bright light in sad times. And this is a great read when you are in flux with your faith. You just need to remember the sacrifices of Jesus.
This is a wonderful book with a focus on the historical details of the last few days in Jesus's life. I learneda lot from this book.
This is an excellent audiobook to help to really get to grips with the last day in the life of Jesus. Its very comprehensive in biblical, cultural and historical detail which makes it an incredibly interesting audio. I've learnt so much from listening to this that I couldn't have got from just reading my bible and I am very grateful to Adam Hamilton,the author for going into so much detail.
At times it was very uncomfortable as the author puts you on the spot to consider how you would behave in the same circumstances as some of the 'villains' in the time-line. This is good though as it stopped me in my tracks and really made me think about my behaviour both past and present. I discussed this quite a lot with my husband as I was listening so it definitely does make a good resource for small groups whether that be in a church or a friends setting.
