I’m incredibly disappointed in this book. After waiting so long to read Devil in Winter (which is many people’s favourite historical romance), I did not enjoy this book whatsoever.
My distaste towards the MMC, Sebastian, started at the end of book two where he kidnaps and threatens to rape the FMC’s (Evie) best friend, Lillian. I immediately wondered if and how he could ever be redeemed in his own book. In my view, that didn’t happen. Sebastian kidnapping and threatening to rape Lillian in book 2 is mentioned three or four times in this book, with either Sebastian or Evie saying there’s “no way” Sebastian would ever have done it.
However, Sebastian threatens Evie with rape *multiple* times in this book. Each time with admissions that he “would never” do it, but that he could. So gross. Not to mention, even if that aspect was removed, I didn’t see his chemistry with Evie - the fact that he suddenly fell in love with her after only sleeping with other women and never falling for them made no sense.
