Such a weird wild ride of gore and violence from the beginning. The reflection of Desperation was really interesting and both stories are really about Johnny Marinville. He seems to be Stephen King's pet character and it is really like "what if we put Johnny in the desert with an ancient evil? Ok, now what if we put him in suburbia?"

Both this book and Desperation stuck with me for YEARS because of how dark it is. I'm reviewing this now because I figured I should still add books that I read over 7 years ago to the list of books read.

But DAMN, y'all, Tak is a menace to society. 

The fact that everything takes place in a single afternoon while flipping the characters from Desperation upside down is just wild. Anyway, if you have a strong stomach, I recommend giving this and Desperation a read, although, maybe read Desperation first.

Kinda disappointed with this book. Desperation is way better. I liked how the the good vs evil thing was structured in Desperation way more. It's a lot more cohesive. And I enjoyed getting all the little flashbacks of the characters lives and all those little details a lot better in Desperation. Here it was just pure horror film tension and gore without finesse. Lots of action and crazy scenes which I generally love, but felt very jumbled here. One of the things I enjoyed so much in Desperation was how even though everyone were strangers to one another, they came together and worked through the minor differences and setbacks to achieve their goal of escaping and defeating Tak. That sense of unity was sorely missing here, for the most part. The more they knew each other the worse they reacted against the other. Maybe that's one of the points but I didn't like it. And even though I had a hard time coming to eventually like Marinville (but did) in Desperation, I still don't know why SK insisted on making him the pov mc twice! He gets on my nerves, more so here. But I have no complaints with Audrey and Seth, the only tangibly developed characters. I really liked them and their love, very bittersweet. Though tbh, there were many moments where I found the writing so unbelievably bad I felt like screaming SK is a shit writer. But maybe it's RB who was the shit writer and that explains everything, he's just keeping his vibes idk. I just had a really hard time getting into this book even though I sped through it. Maybe I'm just biased and obsessed with Desperation to really appreciate The Regulators but I feel I kinda wasted my time through this. Also, the autistic depiction was very yikes and on top of that the boy
