It was cute. The Brit-speak was a little confusing. I really want to know what "whilst" means, now. But Jenny was down to earth and really connectible. Some of the twists thrown in were a bit confusing. Like the marriage of an unnamed "bosom on legs" and a two-bit singer/actor.

Ok, I definitely first read this more than 10 years ago when I was in middle school and...

I loved it.

Honestly?

I still love it.

Told through diary entries, Jennifer James is an awkward, good-hearted, relatable character -- a very cliché YA lead, but she's never too outlandish. She has a big crush on a guy who barely notices her, and a crazy family having issues of their own.

Oh, and she's very British, as in -- Britspeak everywhere But no worries! There's plenty of comical footnotes to help the rest of us non-Brits along.

The plotline itself is honestly a bit unrealistic and insane, but that's what makes it so exciting. I do think that if Jennifer's grounded voice wasn't the one filling us in on all the goings-on, this could've unraveled horribly. Instead, she keeps everything in line and makes this an amazing comedy/romance/realistic piece of fiction that keeps you hooked until the very end.

Did I mention the comedy bit?

Because seriously.

It's great, and so unusual for a YA piece.

Read it.

This was a cute funny book. As expected, it was unrealistic. It did show that reality TV is often not reality. It was a fun light read. I don't read too many of those, and I found it a fun and enjoyable break from my usual reading.
