The King of Spain is an incel.
He forms an attachment to an aristocrat and punishes her for not fully offering herself up to him, despite his pleading for her not to.
All is largely reported through dense passage of often distracted and almost melodramatic conversation.

Conversely, it's a rich, elaborately woven tale of a woman's place in post medieval society. It's complex and acute in its observations. Justice is a plaything for the powerful, and even then some find themselves on the wrong side, out of spite.
End.

I have no idea which viewpoint is mine ultimately. They both are, maybe.

Just a truly outstanding piece of historical literary fiction. Ana is one of the most memorable characters I've ever encountered.
