It’s only the first volume, and there’s been a lot of nonconsensual behavior. I don’t really get Touko & Yuu’s dynamic, and Yuu’s motivations and actions confuse me.

There's an unconcensual kiss in the book which made me kind of uncomfortable and I'm not the biggest fan of nanami yet because she seems a bit too pushy and manipulative with her "I'll make you fall in love" / continuously pursuing the MC even after her telling her she isn't going to fall for her. I read multiple reviews saying that the MC reads as an asexual character and i agree. I do find the story enjoyable enough to read on.

This was such a cute first part, I need to pick up the next ones asap. I thought the relationship development was adorable, if a bit fast on Nanami's side. I wonder if Yuu might be demi? I'm excited to see where their relationship goes, and I'll definitely be checking out the anime.

The mc, Yuu, reads as asexual, no matter what the mangaka may or may not have said on the subject. Nobody calls out to her at all in terms of attraction. In fact, from the preview at the end she may very well be demiromantic demisexual.
Lots of people just aren't well educated on how diverse the asexual and aromantic communities are!
I saw someone claim that Yuu couldn't be a-spec since she enjoys a kiss at a later point (Vol 2's preview)... Like, child, that's not what asexuality is! I should know, I am an own voices reviewer for that representation!
Asexual: person experiencing little to no sexual attraction
Aromantic: person experiencing little to no romantic attraction
Aromantic: person experiencing little to no romantic attraction
Simple. Easy peasy. Stop projecting allosexual views on romance, make outs, sex and intimacy, etc. Thanks, next.
This volume is set mostly during the student council election campaign, where charismatic Nanami-senpai falls for Yuu, who is slowly getting to know Nanami's real self in turn.
Yuu wants to experience love (amatonormativity is not fun), but nobody ever feels special, and she feels disconnected from her peers. Nanami is the first who validates how she feels, although she kind of ruins it by confessing soon after (I understand she was surprised & excited. It was very insta tho).
Yuu is a fun character to see (for me). She isn't shy, cutesy, or sunshine girl. She can be very direct. She has this comfy plain style of dressing that I think reflects well how she isn't up for pretense, cuts down to the essential. It suits her hardworking practical way, as well as the small town Japan vibes I'm getting from the story.
I'm intrigued and hoping this gets more depth.
There's casual homophobia provided by the father, who claims he'd have to set his foot down if Yuu had a girlfriend.

The writing was mesmerizing at times and the discussions of the fear of not being able to love were pretty realistic. However the Noncon kiss and how creepy stuff was painted as romantic made me very uncomfortable while reading.
