"I realized years ago that having you as a friend wasn’t second prize. It wasn’t something to chafe against. It was an honor."

Not one of my favorites. Unfortunately, [b:The Heiress Effect|13489922|The Heiress Effect (Brothers Sinister, #2)|Courtney Milan|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1373761621s/13489922.jpg|19028795] and [b:The Duchess War|13489919|The Duchess War (Brothers Sinister, #1)|Courtney Milan|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1363009176s/13489919.jpg|19028791]were so good that I couldn't help drawing comparisons, and Violet and Sebastian kept coming up short. Violet and Sebastian definitely had a strong relationship, but the dark tone of the earlier pages were wrapped up way too perfectly at the end. Contrarily enough, part of me wishes that if they were going to end the book that way that it was taken even further.

I love how woven into history this serie is. Great book!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the role that healing from trauma plays in the romance genre, and this book does it so so well. The main character must be convinced that she is lovable, and that process is slow and careful. And it’s a fun read to boot!
