This was a great historical novel about one of my favorite queens. Even though I know what happens, Chadwick takes just enough poetic license to keep the story interesting. Excited to read the other two books in the series.

I seem to have the worst possible luck with Eleanor of Aquitaine historical fiction books. It’s quite disappointing. Even in my more generous moods, I have found the books I’ve read to be so dull.
I’ve enjoyed Chadwick’s other works but I found this to be so boring. It’s so dry; it was like being forced to read a textbook that was trying to appeal to the Youth of America. I guess I started to develop Stockholm Syndrome to this book, because around 60% of the way through, I started to become mildly interested.
I managed to finish ‘The Summer Queen’ which is saying something but was it really worth my time? I’m going with no.

it’s hard to do historical fiction and keep the reader entertained and not bored with all the historical fluff so i give chadwick credit for being able to write a historical novel and make it entertaining and engaging all the way through. i thoroughly enjoyed this book. i’m a sucker for strong medieval/renaissance women.

Alienor... one of the best known queens, the one with two kings who excited many imaginations. I was afraid to find a fleur bleu book, as we day in french, only observing the love stories of the Duchess but it was indeed a historical book that I had in my hands, any romance that there may be serving to development of the story, the character of Alienor and the political issues. I will read volume 2 with pleasure.

Historical fiction at its best, I loved this book. I knew absolutely nothing about this woman, and while I recognize this is at its heart fiction, I much enjoyed reading about a time and place I hadn't previously. It also has the drama, intrigue and sexiness that keeps you turning the pages past your bedtime.

Very well done, the author has done a great job of incorporating what little historical record there is, and making Eleanor believable and likeable.
