through no fault of the book; i thought it was great, in an intellectual sense (not necessarily a bringing-joy sense)

Definitely one of the more dramatic entries in the Discworld series — as evidenced by the relative lack of footnote jokes. The timey-wimey nature of the plot means it will probably reward repeat readings, but on first reading I can say it's wonderful without quite being able to call it a favourite.

This was a fantastic installment in Discworld. Sam Vimes is our MC and through magical shenanigans we see how he became the man he is today. He’s anticipating the birth of his and Sybil’s child. But there’s a killer on the loose who needs to be stopped. And somehow Vimes gets sucked into the past and we meet several familiar characters in their younger years.
