If there is one thing I hate in a book, it is too much coincidence. The whole thing of a couple meeting in a bar and having dirty, sweaty, monkey sex then he/she turns out to be new boss/employee, teacher/pupil, dad’s best friend makes me roll my eyes.

Throw a couple more coincidences in and I’m losing the will to live.

In fairness to the author, there is a valid explanation for one of the coincidences. I did like the characters of Rick and Seth. Their sexy times were hot and the book was well written with a whodunnit puzzle to solve.

Needs major editing. Not a bad plot or characters, but the POV switches mid-chapter and the characterization could be a whole lot smoother.

Seth Lang is sent to Munich to play bodyguard to the U.S. consul general. Babysitting a desk jockey isn't Seth's usual MO, but when he sets his eyes on Rick Fine...Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome and the man he had a sexy encounter with three days prior, Seth goes from annoyed to intrigued.

Rick Fine had been sent undercover to find out what really happened to the previous consul general. He is going to need all the help he can get and when it turns out his bodyguard is someone from his past things start to get interesting.

But with Rick keeping a huge secret from Seth and danger at every turn. These two will need to put their issues aside and learn to trust before it all comes crashing down around them.

I enjoyed this book immensely. This is the third book in the series but can be read as a standalone with no issues. The writing was great. The pace moved along nicely. It had some twists and turns (though to be honest it's pretty obvious who the baddie is right from the start). The back and forth banter between the heroes was great. The sexy times were hot. Both main characters were likable guys. The secondary characters were interesting (I'd LOVE to hear more about Alec and his brothers).

Overall just a really enjoyable read. Two thumbs up from yours truly.

Diverting romantic suspense. Has the "Oops, I slept with my unknown to me colleague" trope. Romance seemed kind of instant, but that didn't stop me from reading it quickly.

Recently, BJ posted a lovely review of Guarding Mr. Fine by HelenKay Dimon (http://allaboutromance.com/book-review/guarding-mr-fine-by-helenkay-dimon/), and really, I’m just gonna sit here and second everything she said. I won’t go into the full story, but the brief version is: Seth the spy expects a one night stand to be just that, and when it’s not, he has to deal with protecting and working with the man he’s been obsessing over, Rick. The third in the gay romantic suspense series Tough Love, this installment brings more fun, sexy romantic spy thriller-lite stories and characters. Seth’s story is better for having read the previous two books, but brand-new Rick Fine shares all with both Seth and the reader. The suspense side of things worked pretty well, and the romantic side had me quite pleased overall. I enjoyed the rather snappy dialogue, but do wish, like BJ said, there was more world-building to flesh out the story. Again, though, the characters were quite fun, and the book reads so easily.

I... am conflicted. I liked the two MCs quite a lot. Their snarky banter was funny and had a realness to it that I sometimes find lacking from other authors. (I mean, come on. No 21st century dude talks with the same vernacular as an 18th century dude in some bodice-ripper. That stuff's annoying.) The supporting characters were likewise enjoyable.

What left something to be desired is the intrigue. The resolution of the major plot point fell flat for me. It was pretty anticlimactic. I understand that this is a romance first, but I think if the secondary plot had been given more love, it would have made this to a solid 4 start book.

I enjoyed the book.

3.5 stars

Good straightforward plot and a refreshingly balanced relationship between the MCs. Decent snark dialogue and, as something of an afterthought, a just-this-side-of-bonkers plot.

Fun, sexy, with action and characters surprised by their own emotions (something I'm ridiculously fond of)!
