This couple becomes the backbone of the Protectors books, and yet I found it a little hard to believe in them. I do in later books but this one wasn't as interesting to me.

I’m so sorry but I’m going to rant about this book because it annoyed me so much yet it had so much potential.

I’ll start off with being positive though! There was a dog and it didn’t die. I was very scared that it would through the whole book though. I also loved the hurt/comfort aspects of this book. The only reason I didn’t DNF this book is because of this.

Okay now it’s time for me to let it all out. The main thing that made this book harrowing to get through is that at least half of the book was telling about what happened in the past, and not actually events that were happening in the timeline of the story. I feel like most people with any sort of background in writing know that “showing not telling” is more effective than just telling about the backstory for pages on end. I feel like this book had great potential for a dual timeline.

Now there were so many parts of the storytelling that just didn’t make sense. Firstly, it’s a whole thing that Ronan is supposed to be touch averse because of his previous assault. But there are so many times when Seth touches him and he’s fine about it? I get that he’s supposed to be letting his guard down with the love interest and all, but I feel like it’s more used when it’s convenient rather than actually consistently or in a way that’s truly impactful.
There’s also a scene when they visit the crime scene of the murder and torture of Seth’s parents. But there’s literally still blood and stuff there years later?? You’re telling me nobody cleaned up the crime scene? The professional crew just left those biohazards everywhere?? I don’t think so!! That was so traumatizing and ridiculous. Check the triggers, by the way, because this book has really horrible descriptions of terrible situations.
The climax of the book was also sooooo anticlimactic. Then you had the “villain” go on a confession rant like a fucking scooby doo villain (gotta clear up the plot as fast and lazily as possible I guess).

Aughhhh I really wanted to love this book. The first one in the series had potential, but after this one, I think I’m done with the series.

4 star story
2.5 on narration
Seth and Ronan, these two have so much pain between them it’s no wonder it takes more than a few nights to heal. They had to learn to trust each other and that isn’t as easy as one would think.

Ronan is a scary dude we meet in book one and I loved his book it was exactly as I expected. Maybe a little predictable in the fact that he is a damaged character and we see him fall in love and be somewhat healed. I still enjoyed it.

The narration is ok something about the way he whispers/tries to do a deep voice didn’t work for me.

Actual rating: 3.5 stars

This would of been 4 stars but the push and pull Ronan did to Seth was excessive, borderline obnoxious.

Outside of that complaint it was a great story and enjoyed it

3.75/5

Really enjoyed this but... the end was too easy. Ronan was such an ass for a long time and then, all of a suden it's "kiss, kiss, ILY, hearts everywhere"...I don't think so. I'm also a little disappointed that we hadn't had more of Trace...

Even better than the first book!! I love some angst with my romance and this hit the spot! I’m addicted to the series- addicted the author’s writing.

Hot Dam.. Another great book for this series from Sloane.. Seth and Ronan story is absolutely fabulous read.. I loved their characters and I bet you will too. Both have been through so much in the past but things are far from good in the present.. danger is lurking in all corners.. A highly recommended book as well as this series.. A must..

Wow

The feels. God. I hurt so much for Ronan. He'd been through hell and back and all I wanted to do throughout the story was give him a big hug.

Seth and Ronan's story was messy and so beautiful. I'm loving this series more and more with each book.
