T.W. Rape, incest and murder.

An amazing dark, complex and so atmospheric ghost story. I thank all those who encouraged me to read it. I was so mesmerized all along my reading, starting from the first sentence, the story captivates you. I started reading Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno Garcia then I put it down for this book and I have to say that it was a good decision for Pedro Paramo was way better. Nevertheless, I might try to finish reading M.Gothic but I don't feel that it will have the same impact on my mind as Juan Rulfo's book.

Reading this book in Spanish is just amazing, the magic realism, the characters, this book is beautiful written. It’s a short book but is one of those book you wish it was longer.
Definitely it has become one of my favorite books.

“What do you really understand?”
This is stated by one of the ghosts near the middle of the story and sums up my experience of the book! I was glad to read the foreword to understand what I was getting into. It took me a couple tries to read this book, but when I was in the right headspace I really enjoyed it and read it in one sitting. (With a plot summary that I checked in on every once in a while!)

Some of the lines are so incredible and the book reads like a movie at times. At other times a Greek tragedy. It’s cool to see the influence it has on other Latin magical realism. I enjoyed this book more knowing its significance in the context of literature. If I didn’t know that, I probably would have been more frustrated than amazed. But very glad I read it and will likely read it again.

Do not have a coherent thought about this beyond: wow; I want to reread immediately; how on earth did someone make a movie of this
