These two characters have depth and perseverance and so much love for each other. Reading this book brings to life that platitude about how you need to love yourself before you can love others. I am confident Eva and Shane are going to be ok, and so will Audrey and Eva. I really want there to be a sequel where Eva's past is unraveled and we see her reconcile with her family's past.

Also loved the careers they built, a peek into the world of the literati, and all their beautiful designer clothes.

I definitely think the first 60 percent was 5 star material, but after I kind of got over it. Maybe it was because I read the first half at 3am? Also, I did NOT know there was spice in this, so it was kinda a surprise especially because it tends to be a major turn off for me. However, it didn't influence the plot too much so I was able to just skip it. in my defense, I probably should have known.

This book was the exact escape from everything that I needed. I enjoyed the way the story was told, leaning into the past and interweaving it into the present. And as a former Brooklyn resident, it was nice to experience bits of New York as things unfolded. I found all the characters to be interesting, intriguing, complicated, and entertaining to learn about and truly enjoyed this view into their world. I’ve read The Perfect Find by Tia Williams and while I enjoyed it, I found myself much more invested in this read and seeing where she would take Eva and the humans she surrounds herself with. The first page admittedly threw me off at first, but I’m glad I kept going and would definitely recommend this read as a result of all I’ve shared here.
