me gustó, habló de la economía más de lo que esperaba (ya se que la descripcion del libro dice la historia economica de América Latina pero yo no leo descripciones) así que me costó engancharme, pero mas o menos a la mitad lo logré

Don't quiz me on this. The major idea - that Latin American companies have been exploited - is summarized in sometimes fascinating, sometimes utterly boring ways. I won't remember the details but the general gist.

"There isn't much difference between a Volkswagen republic and a banana republic // In the history of humankind every act of destruction meets its response, sooner or later, in an act of creation."

this book should be required reading. ESPECIALLY for those USA-ers who vacation in Latin America on a whim, or those who move to Latin America because "it's cheaper".

We know of the pillage of Latin America since it was discovered by Europe/the US. Galeano, however, traces the specific veins through which the continents vitality has been stolen and the ways in which the pattern continues in such a stark and unwavering that he forces the reader to truly confront their own history and participation in colonialism and imperialism.

there is so much meticulous research, history, and data packed into these pages that I know I will absorb even more on a second read.

It’s hard to believe a book from over 50 years ago can hit so accurately - but Galeano once again strikes a vein of truth that all Americans (north and south) should read.
