I'm so conflicted on this book. I thought the prose was often very beautiful, but I hated almost everything else about it LOL the age gap freaked me out even when she was 20 and he was 28, when she was a child and he was 30+ it felt soooooo gross. it was also just, long and kind of boring. I didn't really buy the chemistry between Henry and Clare, they have nothing in common besides how much they love to have sex. I figured out that
Henry was probably going to die
about halfway through and then spent the rest of the book just waiting for it to happen. Maybe it could have been more compelling if I cared about any of the characters at all, but as it `tood it was just a lot of nothing vignettes of the lives of uninteresting, privileged white people feeling sorry for themselves. Sigh. Feel like it could have been great.

Henry meets Clare for the first time when she’s 6 and he’s 40-something because he time traveled and doesn’t choose where or when in the past or future he goes to. So, she grows up meeting him multiple times and falls in love with him and they marry when she much older, but have sex for the first time when she is 18. It doesn’t say how old he is when that happens because she just is recounting it to someone else. It just kinda gives me the ick. She doesn’t want to date other people as a teenager - you get the impression she’s saving herself for him. He flirts with her while she’s a teen and he’s in his 40’s. It must gave me the ick. Ultimately looked up the spoiler synopsis for the end online and skipped reading the rest of the book even if I only had about 230 pages left.

So original and moving. I was hooked from the first page. Such a convincing love story and some beautiful characters. Adult/minor relationship was pretty weird and went unaddressed tho

The "love affair" was glorified grooming and it was too close to pedophilia for me. A 36 year old man touching the feet of a 13 year old who will later become his wife was unsettling. The author was sure to say nothing sexual happened until she was 18 and he was 40. ..

Just finished this book and I already want to read it again. My emotions may never recover. Also I’m completely in love with Henry the time traveling punk rock librarian.

I went into this book thinking it was a sweet Hallmark-esque story. It is anything but that. Granted I didn't finish it, but as soon as I got to the point where
two 15-year-old Henry's have sex with each other
it was too much. It was already too much
with the blatant grooming that Henry was doing to Clare
