The lyricism of the writing was (miraculously) not diminished by the time-traveling element (I know. I KNOW). The main characters were intimate, caring, loving and in every way 3-dimensional. And yet the author insisted on short-cutting that relationship by often describing love-making as 'fucking' when clearly, that is not what these two were doing. Her use of profanity, in these instances, was insulting to my understanding of the beauty and mystery of two lives intermingling both spiritually and physically. It cheapens the experience to something that could have easily been done with a prostitute, and therefore is not true to the characters that the author painstakingly (and for the most part, successfully) creates.
And for this, the story failed to capture my intellect even if it held my attention.

As a self-professed romantic, Henry and Clare's love for each other blew me away. It intensified my belief that love is the only thing that can give us the will and courage to live in a tricky, cruel world. I had to take a deep breath and try hard not to cry as I put the book down.

This book SUCKS! Grooming. Racist. Classist. Just GROSS!
Like Henry literally goes back in time (duh) and has sex with himself? And is in a relationship a minor, and talks about her feet?
Moderate: Suicide attempt

Overall enjoyable read, glad I read this modern classic. There was one part that was so slow but otherwise quite fast paced. Tbh I don't think this book will stick with me though, I didn't love any of the characters but I do enjoy time travel.

This was such a sad book, it only got sadder as it went on. I had expected a lighthearted adventure following the husband who disappeared in time, but it hit me with all the feels since the beginning. Turns out, involuntary time travelling would be awful. The book has a believable interpretation of how it would work, and its likely consequences. The characters are lovable and realistic, especially Henry. There are some moments of euphoria, but the tone is mostly dark. Very well written, I know I will remember this book for a long time.
