Lieliskums mijas ar cringe’īgumu, pārāk liels vieglums un naivums ar ļoti dziļām, spēcīgām un tumšām tēmām.

"Why didn’t your mom leave him?”
“You know, it always amazes me that that's the first question people ask. As if the blame lies on my mom and not on the man responsible. The man who beat his wife, snuck into his daughters' rooms at night. It's never: Wow, what an awful human being he was. Your poor mom must have been terrified. The blame always gets put on the victim or victims. Why is that? It's because, society never wants to accept that monsters are real - just weak women."

OH MY GOD
I am in loveeee with this series! The story of Thayer and Salem had me hooked from beginning to end! The sexy, broody, older next door neighbor meets a shy, go with the flow younger woman??? hello<< GENIUS. I love how the relationship slowly builds with peace offerings of cupcakes and Diet cokes, and progresses into a full blown steamy love escapades sort of deal, and the notion where they are sneaking around so its kind of like a forbidden love?? I am not a fan of the major plot changes in relation to the mom and the son of Thayer, THEY MADE ME SO SAD, but I guess thats show biz??

Thank good when I found these books the 2nd book was already out or me and Micalea would have had beef.

This was another tiktok/insta rec that i just had
to find out of for myself about. This is the first
book in the duet series and ends on a cliffhanger!

This story follows Salem and Thayer, Thayer moves
in next door to Salem and she is captivated by his
grumpy attitude. They bond over cookie dough cupcakes and form a friendship from there! Salem
ends up babysitting for Thayer and that just helps
grown their relationship even more!

because this is a duet, it does end on a cliffhanger.
PLEASE check triggers warnings. There are some
heavy topics/themes such as cheating and cancer.
And trust me you will BAWLLLLLL your eyes out

Age gap… grumpy neighbor… single dad. All the right things to make this book swoonworthy. Up until the end of the book, I was absolutely swooning over Thayer and Salem (I hate their names). Forbidden romances will always be top tier but especially when the MMC is a genuinely conflicted good guy.

Caleb is kind of an outlier here but something feels important. Like, he obviously seems like the better choice, emotionally and logically for Salem and he’s genuinely a good guy too. It’s hard to say if I’d be okay with them ending up together. I think Thayer has a lot to make up for in book two to get back in my good graces and earn my rooting for them in the end.

My attitude for the last 10% of this book was literally “what the actual fuck” and then “aww” and then “what the actual fuck” again.

Ready to jump into the second one and let me tell you, if there isn’t an HEA, I’m gonna riot.

Tropes:
Age gap (13 years)
Grumpy neighbor
Single dad
Infidelity (not between MC’s)

Spice: 2.5 🌶️
