Easily one of the best books i’ve read this year. The gore is insanely graphic and leaves little to the imagination. Sodergren does a wonderful job of making me feel like i was standing in that brothel watching events unfold. I’m a huge fan of books where the bulk of it takes place in a short amount of time, in this instance all in one night. To think the things these characters experienced took place in a matter of hours makes it seem that much horrifying.

This was the first time I was enjoying something so much but still had to put it down to give my head a breather. Sort of the Deuce meets The Evil Dead. Recommend highly.

[4.5 stars] Wow this book was crazy alright. And that basement… there’s just something about freaking basements that scares the living hell out of me. As always the gore was wild and exactly what I expected from Sodergren. The plot was so interesting I genuinely couldn’t tell where this story was going to go as I kept reading.

Damn you, Sodergren, you’ve done it again. And By God’s Hand You Shall Die was a WILD ride from start to finish. The setting & concept for this book was unique - 1980s NYC in a brothel built on top of the ruins of an old church. A church once run by a crazed priest who is out for revenge on the new institution. The additional supernatural elements in this book were so awesome. I don’t think I’ll read anything like it again!

As Sodergren has done in so many of his books, we are introduced to very thoughtfully fleshed out characters. He did a great job of humanizing sex workers, and I felt as if everyone’s personalities were so well crafted, even if they were only in a chapter or two. The multiple storylines worked well and came together all in the end seamlessly.

Definitely the goriest that I’ve read from this author and many times I laughed out loud at how insane this story was. Hilarious, absolutely terrifying, and fun. 5 stars for me!
