I spent SO long trying to read this book. Not because it wasn’t good, but because every single time I put it down, I didn’t want to pick it up. When I was reading it, I would have a good time and want to know what happened. But my final straw happened today when I began reading and was just frustrated with the fact that I’m still trying to finish it. I’m trying to be better about just DNFing when I feel this way instead of torturing myself through finishing, so here we are.

There are several instances in which the main character mentions dieting, needing to lose weight, etc. to simply look better; it was triggering for me, she at one point mentions that restricting at one time of the day means she can eat later

En kall vinterdag i det lilla samhället Fjällbacka hittas en kvinna död i badkaret med handlederna avskurna. Allt tyder på att Alexandra tog livet av sig, men det kalla huset har bevarat kroppen bra och Erika som var hennes barndomsvän är inte säker på att det är vad som hänt. Så Erika börjar själv nysta i fallet tillsammans med polisen Patrik. Men kommer de få några svar av de säregna personerna som bor i ett samhälle där alla vet allt om varandra och där det yttre skenet har stor betydelse?
Läckberg debutroman. Den var riktigt bra som ljudbok, full med intressanta karaktärer som hade sina karaktäristiska personligheter som gjorde att jag antingen gillade dem eller avskydde dem.  Att vissa kan vara så måna om vad andra ska tycka att de nästan gör vad som helst för att behålla det. Med enkla medel beskriver författaren de olika personerna, deras tankar och känslor utan att komplicera, något jag verkligen gillar. Ska bli intressant och se hur det fortsätter.

I’m not sure what to give as a starred review but I will tell you that the style of this book frequently aggravated me; the characters would find new information and go, hmm, that’s interesting, and the readers wouldn’t get to know the information for potentially dozens of pages. I know why it was done, but it still annoyed me. And there were so many threads that in the end I still had a few questions that were answered in the book but I no longer remembered after so much else had happened. But maybe that’s just me and my bad memory and slow reading.
