I loved the unsettling vibes with this, very fun and had a good pulse to pull you along the story. Do I understand the science or philosophy behind the story? Not really, but I probably listened to it too quickly to let it sink in. Overall this was like if you took the last two books in the Southern Reach trilogy and made it less cli-fi, and more  about what makes a person themself in a corporate science setting where a company is definitely slowly destroying a city. It gave me Vandermeer vibes but while feeling more grounded and tangible, and in a suburban environment, ya know? It was good & unsettling fun!

I really liked the premise of this book and in many ways I liked how it moved toward its ending. What held it back a little bit for me was a lack of explanation as to why the inciting incident was occurring. Others may find that a bonus, but I wanted something.

It took a bit to get into this, but the tense feeling of knowing that something is going on that's causing this city to slowly sink and the appearances in her basement kept me very interested. The dynamic between the main characters was definitely the most fascinating aspect of this for me. The ending felt a little disjointed and didn't explain things quite well enough for me. I know that this was mainly horror, but with so many sci-fi elements, I really feel like it would have benefited from a bit more of the science being added.
